Kirby is a action-platforming series by HAL-Laboratories and published to consoles by Nintendo
Originally shortened as "Halken" in the 80s and 90s, Hal is also responsible for many small NES and Gameboy titles like Adventures of Lolo, Mach Rider and Balloon Fight, and big boy titles like Box-Boy, Super Smash Bros, Mother, and Eggerland... and Kirby of course!
Kirby can be enjoyed by anybody of any background or gaming skill, as the controls are simple and acsessible, but when explored deeper can provide robust combat and fresh challenges. Kirby's creator, Masahiro Sakurai, calls this game design philosiphy the "Kirby effect".
Kirby, or Popopo, as originally named, was originally a placeholder until a better character was used, but the developers liked this round bastard so much he became the main character! it's very common nintendo knowledge about the confusion on what Popopo's color was. White? Pink? Yellow? the Gameboy's monochrome color scheme and puke-green console screen certianly didn't help.
Nowadays, Kirby is adored and respected by millions, and proves Pink is the most badass and manly color that can be seen by the human eye. thank Kirby for some of your favorite games, a lot would be different (and a lot worse) without him.
I thank Kirby and HAL for getting me into gaming so safely, and for being such an important face in my formative years. my first game, first art piece, first Blender project, first proper song, and this website, all involve Kirby in some way. I really wouldn't be the same without you.
