Tetris Attack is the result of the localizers thinking a cute game with magical girls just wouldn't work in the west. it's a strange naming choice, since Tetris gameplay isn't present in any form. up until Panel De Pon was finally brought over to Nintendo Switch Online worldwide in 2020, they absolutely refused to just release this game in it's original vision. in 2000, Pokemon Puzzle League released, a total makeover from the almost canceled Panel De Pon 64. some speedrunners prefer this version due to less lag. the North American name for this game officially was branded as "Puzzle League" after 64 and Puzzle Challenge on the Gameboy Color. in 2005, Dr Mario and Puzzle League released for the GBA, and in 2007, Planet Puzzle League released for the DS, featuring online multiplayer. perhaps with a certian DNS trick, we can all play Panel De Pon together again...

Panel De Pon is a 1995 Japanese exclusive SNES title, developed by Intelligent Systems and produced by the creator of the Gameboy! it's a puzzle game where you try your best to match 3 or more blocks and create chains, dropping garbage blocks on your opponent, or in single player, scoring as many points as you can before your screen overflows. Speaking of the Gameboy, in 1996, a port released to it as "Yoshi no Panepon". in 1998, a version of Panel De Pon released for the Satellaview, a sort of subscription service where special events were released and broadcasted to the SNES via satellite. a couple more re-releases came by, in Nintendo Puzzle Collection (2003), Dr Mario & Panel De Pon (2005), Panel De Pon DS (2007), a similar game on DSiWare, and on the Super Famicom Mini.

Lip, the main character of Panepon, wields a flower staff, which is where the item "Lip's Stick" in Super Smash Bros Melee onwards comes from! Lip also makes an appearance in Captain Rainbow.
