what you see in front of you is a tribute to my first website, and the redesign that made me so passionate about the indie web. this is probably what I would've came up with if I had gotten the hang of CSS first try. it's a little bare bones, but I had to work with what was essentially a colorful document with images on it lolol
admitedly I forgot what EXACTLY I was shooting for with that site, since it was the result of my best friend and I starting a project that never got off the ground, and me becoming interested in the indie web and what it had to offer, turning it into a site playing a character said project wanted to represent. (it might've been a sort of projection of myself but shh >.>)
fun fact, calamari soup was so overwhelming to the laptop I was working with that the website lagged out the entire system! I eventually had to change it from the background you see to a static one because of it.
if you've had your own website for a while, or you're an artist try remaking an old project of yours!
the dramatically romanticised and rose tinted concepts of the "old web" seemes weird to me sometimes, like there was something off about it, like everyone was leaving out something in favor of their nostalgic memories
it's human nature to do something like that I think. many of these gifs are from Gifcities, IA team's project to preserve these charming little things. there was a very handmade charm to these websites I visited, though there was a running theme of "final updtes" involving overwhelment, harassment, and sudden loss of passion due to similar factors, shockingly similar to what current day internet users deal with. everyone should come together with any project, good or bad, without having to worry about harassment and I think neocities does a pretty good job at it from what i've seen. (pretty please can we keep this positivity on YT and twitter???)
